Welcome – 2018

6/05/2018

Hello Castaic AYSO Parents,

Welcome to the Fall 2018 season.  Whether this is your first year with the program or your 10th, thank you for participating.    This email includes some important program info, so please read through the whole thing!

Castaic AYSO is a volunteer-run youth soccer program here in Castaic.  Parents and other community members just like you work together to put on the program for our kids, with the goal of providing a world-class soccer program that is low-cost and local, but with the benefits of being part of a larger national organization that provides training and support.  There are many ways that you can help out, and we hope you’ll dedicate some time and effort to help make the program the best it can be.

Registration will close on July 1, so please encourage your friends and neighbors to sign up as soon as possible.  The earlier we finish registration, the earlier we can form teams and get the season going.  If you talk to anyone who intends to sign up but just hasn’t gotten around to it yet, please encourage them to sign up ASAP!

Our greatest need is for coaches and referees.   We provide training for both the coaches and referees, so you don’t need to be a soccer expert. Coaches conduct one or two practices a week (one practice for the 6U and 8U divisions, two practices for the 10U, 12U and 14U divisions), and attend the games on Saturday mornings or early afternoons.  If you’re not available during the week, the referees only referee on Saturday mornings, and can set their own schedule.

If you are willing to be a coach, please register (for free) as a volunteer on the Blue Sombrero site (where you registered your player), and sign up as a Coach or Assistant Coach in the division you want to Coach.

If you are willing to referee, please also sign up as a referee.  We’ll be in touch about the training in August.

We also need board members.  The Regional Board are parents and community members who help organize the program, and take care of everything from ordering the jerseys, helping everyone get registered and trained, making sure we have fields to play on, working on the website, and getting the equipment to the fields on Saturdays (as well as many other things).  The Board meets once a month, and you can dedicate as much (or little) time as you want.  If you’ve ever had an opinion about how the program is run, then you’d make a great board member!  Email info@aysocastaic.com if you’re interested (just say “I’m willing to help out on the board.”)

===========================================================================================

For players who are new to Castaic AYSO, in order to get to know the new players in the 10U, 12U and 14U divisions, we will have two “evaluation” activities where the players play some soccer and we evaluate them.  We can then try and balance the teams.  These activities will be on the following days:

Tuesday, June 26 (Hasley Park) (6pm – 7:30pm)

Tuesday, July 17 (Hasley Park) (6pm – 7:30pm)

More info to come.  You only need to attend on one of these days, not both.  And if your player played in our 2017 season, you don’t need to attend (their coach filled out an evaluation for them).

============================================================================================

If we can get everyone registered on time, then we’ll form teams on July 28, coaches can start practices in August, we’ll train the referees in August, and the first games will be on September 8.  If people wait until the end of July or August to try and sign up, that will impact our ability to form teams and get things going…

And in addition to anything else we might do as parents and volunteers, please remember that ultimately the most important thing is to support the other coaches, referees and players.

Thanks in advance for your help in making this a great season,

John Richard
